The clerk at the hospital counter who'd, saved a man's, life, and she was without ANY, medical training or, expertise, only a heart of care and concern toward those whom she was, serving at work…translated…
On this, particular, morning, a man arrived at the information desk of the therapy center, stated that he was a patient that traveled here from Kaohsiung, because he'd gone early in the morn to get his blood drawn, hoped that he could come in the afternoon for the session with the oncologist. I'd had him find a chair in the lobby to sit, then, I'd begun, my busy medical work.
The hospital I work in has the very first heavy ion therapy cancer treatment center, there were a lot of the cancer patients who'd traveled from all over the island to get treatment here. Not long thereafter, I saw him with his head down on the tables, resting, I'd gone to check how he was feeling, he'd told me he just felt fatigued, and needed a little, rest.
Thinking of how the lunch break is coming up, that there would be a whole hour and a half, with only the security guards on duty, I'd gone up to him again, and he'd, appeared, even, weaker than before, and stated that he'd felt, dizzy then. I'd recalled how he got his blood drawn in the morning, and immediately called out to help from a senior nurse, and checking his records, he'd had only a-third of the hemoglobin compared to a normal person, with all other indicators coming up, abnormal too; the more experienced nurse immediately paged the oncologist, and, followed the orders, contacted the E.R.
This was only within ten minute's time frame, later, the senior nurse on staff told me, that the man was bleeding internally somewhere, that had he been found after the lunch breaks, the outcomes would've been, unimaginable. As a recently hired pencil pusher in the giant white tower, I'd come to understand, that working in the medical industries, we had to have more care and be more attentive to things, because life is, too precious, and I'm also really glad, that I'm doing something meaningful to help others.
And so, had this person not asked the man how he was doing, then, the hospital will have a medical negligence on its hands, and this still showed, of the importance of us, being, tentative, attentive to our, surrounding environments, so we can, lend a helping hand, if someone is in need.
