The day started out with heavy cloud cover and blessed coolness. But the humidity stayed, the harbinger of rain. And the lawn needed mowing, desperately. Benny came with his rider mower to help me. We were done in less than two hours.
I am so grateful for the help of our grandkids. They're strong and quick, plus they seem happy to do it.
We had Jube coming for the afternoon for the garden part of the work, but had to postpone that.
Because the rain settled in, turning my day into a hygge day of house work. It's chilly, even, which is startling after all the heat, day after day. We even considered making a fire in the stove to take off the damp.
It's a cozy kind of evening now. Everything is dripping wet outside, while inside the glow of lamps and fresh flower bouquets are cheerful. I still have laundry to put away and dishes to finish up. Elv is done for the day, and saying the woods are going to be too muddy for tomorrow. But there's always mechanical work.
I cut the tails of the succulent off the hanging pot outside and put them to use in a big white pitcher for one of the wide sills. Adding in the candle just for the picture to show how simply a little cozy can be created.
Here's my current collection of discoveries.
- If the wind blows your barely tasseling corn over flat to the ground; do not panic. Or try things. Just wait and pray. In a few days, it will stand back up.
- Used humidifiers can be taken apart and cleaned up for more use.
- Mopped and waxed floors look so much better, but they feel amazing underfoot. Why didn't I do that long ago?
- When two people talk about things, finally, instead of thinking that each other already knows what the other thinks, well then, good things come of it. Elv and I did this last weekend and saved ourselves several thousand dollars.
- I have known this but here it is again. Less is sometimes more. Less clutter more clean. Less phone time, more brains for real life. I'm sure you know your own less is more needs.
- The Victoria magazine subscription Elv had ordered for my birthday last fall could, in fact, be asked to send them to me finally. I had to do research and also be willing to reach out and answer emails and, and, and. But they are finally on the way. We hope.
- We still love to canoe.
