It's better for them than grain, and results in delicious beef! The pumpkin patch has some early maturing fruit this year. We had some visitors that enjoyed participating in the process. Splitting the pumpkins open is one of those more satisfying farm chores, albeit an unusual one. Sometimes the squashes are a bit resistant. This just means everybody gets a turn. It's like some sort of demented farm piƱata game. They did eventually manage to break it up, and the cows enjoyed their treat tremendously.
