Tourtiere pie was a winter staple in my French Canadian family. We always had it once a week starting after Thanksgiving. It was also served before Midnight Mass. The women in my father's family made tourtière pies in batches and froze them. My family of strong women had strong opinions from the filling to the crust. I stand my ground on this one Stuffing doesn't belong in tourtière pie. I caused a lot of loud discussions in French. My family thinks it is hysterical that I am more fluent in French when angry. There are recipes that I never give out and this is one of them. The last time I was home I made a tourtière pie and people knew it came from my surname.
