It is quiet in my gazebo. The sun is coming up crimson and purple. The family is asleep. The robot vacuum is running over the house. My coffee is creamy. I have been editing my novel this morning. I was thinking of the side hustles that I complete along with my actual job that afford our lifestyle. Frugality upgrades our lifestyle.
Product testing is something I have a love/hate relationship with. You can get too many things to try.
Online surveys and product panels have been very good to me over the years.
Homesteading:
Harvesting our eggs (eggs at our local Walmart was 6.20 that is 34 cents an egg. The eggs from our chickens are 12 cents an egg. They eat healthy and free-range
Garden produce saves us about 800 dollars a year with just the canning and freezing. Our grocery bill in the summer ranges 12 -50 dollars a week.
Harvesting our meats on the homestead saves us thousands, Our meat is cleaner.
Sewing my clothing and home decor saves us 1000's
I know that creating all of our health and beauty products saves hundreds,
Bartering has saved me thousands over the years.
Hobbies can be fun and satisfying. Sometimes, profitable. I picked up my consignment for 2 quilts and 10 dresses I custom-made. I made 1200 dollars profit. I often sew when I am watching movies.
We are coming into Fall: stock up on school supplies that are on sale and clearance clothing and dishware.
As we enter the holiday season, stock up the items that are pantry stable: baking items, boxed stuffing, gravy mixes, etc. I will be purchasing an extra turkey or two.
This over a week long sickness had me emptying my freezer of homemade casseroles, bread dough, and home-canned soup. I still needed to get a meal on the table for everyone despite being ill. My friend asked me why I didn't buy Stoufeers. My family even when ill, they can eat two of the entrees which are over 12 dollars at our local Walmart. Every time, I make a lasagna, or chicken casserole I make two. I have these meals on hand for illness or travel.
Frugality means thinking ahead and/or thinking outside the box.
