Life in the Blood part 1
"For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul." Leviticus 17:11
Our bodies are an amazing creation, comprising muscles, nerves, glands, bones referred to 'fixed tissues'. Our blood however is different in that it is fluid and moves throughout our entire body supplying every part of us with nourishment and cleansing.
1 Corinthians 15:46 "first the natural then the spiritual" .
Blood has been called 'the fountain of life'. We read in this verse from Leviticus that to 'make atonement for the soul', there was a requirement for blood to be shed on the altar.
To 'atone', in Scripture, is to suffer the penalty for sin, removing the effects of iniquity. So when a person repents, asking for forgiveness and applies the blood of Christ as shed on the cross, we receive the priceless gift of 'atonement' allowing us to be reconciled to God, Our Lord and Our Friend.
Not only does our atonement depend on the blood of the Cross, but it also provides preservation and nourishment. Because of Calvary, we who have accepted Christ have life everlasting.
Grace and peace.
