A Republican from Northeast Florida is letting the world know she won a recent straw poll, suggesting that is a sign of things to come in the HD 18 Primary later this month.
"Team Kendall is on track to take the win on August 20," said candidate Kim Kendall, regarding her 58% to 42% win over Nick Primrose in the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce "Meet the Candidates" straw poll
"Thank you to all the wonderful St. Johns residents who participated in the straw poll and marked their ballot for Kim Kendall. Your unwavering support and faith in my strong, conservative leadership in Tallahassee means a great deal. As your future State Representative, I'm fully committed to working together to achieve real change for our community and state. I can't wait to get to work for my fellow Floridians on day one!"
The straw poll win is the latest narrative development in a race where incumbent Republican Rep. Cyndi Stevenson backs Kendall's opponent.
Primrose has raised more money than Kendall and has more to spend down the stretch.
Through July 19, he has raised nearly $267,000 to his campaign account and nearly $100,000 to his political committee, Friends of Nick Primrose. He has more than $130,000 to spend.
Kendall, meanwhile, has raised just over $67,000, plus another $55,000-plus via her PC, Friends of Kim Kendall. She loaned her campaign $75,000 also. She has roughly $68,000 on hand.
Democrat Keith Matthews awaits the winner in November, but has little shot to win.
More than 72% of HD 18 voters backed Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022, and more than 64% voted for Republican Donald Trump in 2020.
