Proving once again, Hollywood is out of ideas they decided on doing another "Crow" reboot/sequel/remake? I'm not sure, but it is definitely a "Crow" story. I am of the opinion that the original "Crow" movie was great and doesn't need a Reboot, because it truly followed the comic book story and had the lead played by the late great Brandon Lee. You can't mess with that.
*The MEAT* The story is not what the original author, James O'Barr intended or what the first movie was about. This new version wants to explain everything a little more in depth and while that usually is a good thing, it doesn't work here because it makes the movie move along at a slow, unnecessary pace which builds to an unsatisfying end.
*The PATATOES* The acting is all Bill Skarsgard and he does a good confused and vengeful but tortured soul here. But I can't help but compare him with Brandon Lee and there really is no comparison when playing the lead in Eric Drevin. The role of Shelly is played by FKA twigs and while it's a much larger role than the original, it doesn't do much to make it memorable. Finally, Danny Huston plays the villain, and his performance is weak to say the least.
*The VERDICT* Nope! I didn't like this new "Crow" movie at all, and I am not the only one according to the box office results. The movie was a slow build to an excessively violent conclusion that you see coming a mile away. Most of all it did not capture the true essence that the original conveyed so well and made it a cult classic. Save your money and time by skipping this one.
