Since Fred Meyer employees are on strike this weekend, I respect the strike and won't cross a picket line outside of an actual emergency, I did my grocery shopping elsewhere this week. I went to Safeway, and it was busier than normal. It is a holiday weekend and with Fred Meyer on strike the people that would normally be at Fred Meyer were also at Safeway. I also went to New Seasons in Happy Valley. Twelve of the twenty-one New Seasons stores are unionized, Happy Valley is not one of them. Eleven of the twelve union New Seasons stores will be on strike on Sunday. The fact that union workers are striking over Labor Day weekend is not lost on me. I know for the New Seasons Employees, Monday is a paid holiday for those who work. For those that have been with the company for more than six months, Monday is a double pay holiday (less than six months of employment is time and a half). I had to go to the bank on my way home, and the bank I went to is just down from a Fred Meyer, and the parking lot was almost empty, while the Safeway store I went to was busier than I have ever seen it. | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
