#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! DC didn't waste any time getting Gotham City Sirens out with the last issue hitting shelves today accompanied by a great story that has been going on in Detective and more Absolute Power tie-ins. Marvel has gone all Venom all the time with a few X-Books thrown in for good measure. Actually, it's a well-rounded week for Marvel even if it feels like the 90's all over again. It could have been an all Image top five again with all of the choices available this week, don't miss the Sacrificers and a trip down memory lane with Transformers #1 40th Anniversary Edition. This time next week we will be prepping for the All C's Collectors Spotlight! Free to attend, great collector fun for the whole family, and a chance at some unique finds. Until then we've got five stacked high ready to fly!
Saga #68> The show must go on, right? (S) Brian K. Vaughan (A) Fiona Staples
Smurfs Take> I was thinking how long this story has been going and talking with Fiona and Brian about what we can expect and the characters. At the time issue #6 had just come out and it's been an amazing story for the past 62 issues that has gone by in a blink. It's been glorious and ready for the next installment of the space opus.
Void Rivals #12> After what they've endured in the wasteland, are Darak and Solila now destined to walk separate paths? Where Solila goes now, Darak cannot follow...or can he? What will Springer's final fate be? And what are the Quintessons planning now? (S) Robert Kirkman (A) Lorenzo De Felici
Smurfs Take> Kirkman has really outdone himself with this title. It started out so simply and had blown into this epic story, and now the Quintessons have been added to the mix shedding a little more on a character that we never got a whole lot on. This has been as close to perfect as one can get when bringing back characters long forgotten or written off completely.
Aliens Vs. Avengers #1> ALIENS AND AVENGERS FACE OFF! It's all led to this: Xenomorphs reach Earth! The perfect organism meets a planet of superhumans. Who will be first to fall? Legendary collaborators Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić cut loose in this four-part epic unmissable for Marvel and Alien fans alike! (S) Jonathan Hickman (A) Esad Ribic
Smurfs Take> This is freaking amazing! One of the best stories I ever read was Superman Vs. Aliens, and I'm getting the same feels for this one especially with Hickman behind the story. Not that I'm expecting a lot of carnage and a high body count (but I am) I'm excited to see how he merges the two very different worlds. The story we have always wanted to see is finally here, who will be the last one standing is anyone's guess.
Marvel 85th Anniversary Special #1> CELEBRATE MARVEL'S 50,000TH COMIC-BOOK RELEASE! In the far future of the year 50,000, the exploits of the heroes of the Marvel Age are the stuff of legend, half remembered but still celebrated! Come with us now on a tour of the greatest museum in all the cosmos, in which the few surviving relics of those bygone days have been assembled. Each piece tells a unique story - about the Contest of Champions and how it wrought an end to the Age of Heroes, about the greatest triumph of Ms. Marvel and the final, secret exploit of Excalibur! And more! Marvel's greatest storytellers gather to commemorate the whole of Marvel history in a once-in-a-lifetime celebration! Smurfs Take> Hard to say no to an anniversary special this loaded with talent and can use a good Excalibur fix. An old school approach for a new era, fantastic.
Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #1> MINISERIES PREMIERE
A MODERN-DAY HORROR VISIONARY RESURRECTS ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC MONSTERS
Award-winning creator MICHAEL WALSH (THE SILVER COIN) presents an electrifying new vision of the horror classic. Each issue of the limited series tells the shocking story behind one of the body parts used to create the unforgettable monster in the original film.
In this first issue, Dr. Henry Frankenstein begins his unholy quest to create life by robbing the grave of a decorated police officer. But little does he know that the corpse has a son who is mourning a father—and that this young boy will forever change Frankenstein's life. (S) Michael Walsh (A) Michael Walsh, Toni Marie Griffen
Smurfs Take> I was surprised when I heard Image was going to go down this road. I had thought this more a Dark Horse thing, maybe Dynamite, but not Image. Then after seeing the success Image has had over the years and such solid stories maybe this is the perfect place, and the classic monsters couldn't have found a better home to live again. Respecting the past and paying tribute while introducing to a new generation going in a whole new direction; I like it.
