The U.K. Telegraph this week as part of a long article suggested Bond 26 may have taken some baby steps forward.
"I'm told a small number of (director) contenders have been summoned to Eon Productions' London HQ for what have been described as 'a first found of speed dates,'" Robbie Collin, The Telegraph's chief film critic wrote.
Collin didn't specify who told him that, how small the group of directors we're talking about, or how long the process may take. The story contains speculation about possible directors, including Yann Demange, whose name came up in reports about Bond 25/No Time to Die before Danny Boyle and then Cary Fukunaga were hired.
In terms of quotes with names attached, the main ones were from academic James Chapman and YouTuber Calvin Dyson.
For the moment, Eon is busy with a proposed movie version of Othello starring Daniel Craig. It's based on a stage production made in the last decade, putting the story in a modern setting.
Bond 26 lacks a director, a script, and a star -- all necessary before filming can commence. Collin's story begins with a possible Bond 26 timeline: "Late 2026, at the earliest. Maybe 2027. Perhaps even 2028."
