My Heart Christ's Home Part 1
In John 14:23, Jesus said "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to Him and make Our home with him."
I just love this Scripture. When I was first born again, one of the things that had the greatest impact on me was this thought; that our Lord and Friend would come and live on the inside of me. To my mind, there is no greater place of intimacy. I was amazed, and still am in awe of how much our precious Lord loves us – that He desires to dwell within us always. What a wonderful Saviour. He is the friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Recently I re-read a little booklet that I purchased back then, called My Heart Christ's Home by Robert Boyd Munger.
Ephesians 3:16-17 "that (God) may grant you to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith." (Weymouth) translation says "that Christ may settle down and be at home in your hearts by faith." Oh my goodness.
I will never forget the night I asked Christ to come into my life and be my Lord and Saviour. Revelation 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and He with me." Have you done this?
In the joy of my new-found relationship, I said to Him, "Lord I want this heart of mine to be yours. I want you to settle down here and be fully at home."
Over the years, as the Lord has come to dwell with me, I have become aware of areas in my heart that needed renovation or restoration. Over the next couple of weeks we will look at this concept.
Psalm 139:23-24 is ongoing in my life "God I invite Your searching gaze into my heart. Examine me through and through; find out everything that may be hidden within me. Put me to the test and sift through my anxious cares. See if there is any path of pain I'm walking on, and lead me back to Your glorious, everlasting way, the path that brings me back to You."
Shalom. Kath
