Today was one of those days where we managed to get a lot of things done!
I honestly didn't start my day till after noon. Maybe it was my initial inertia that tipped me over the edge. Or perhaps it was lunch: right now, I'm getting delicious tomatoes from the garden, and our friend David bright us some peaches. I need to make jam… but some of them are getting eaten fresh!
Reporting from the kitchen test lab:
Tomatoes with balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil are amazing.
Peaches with blueberry balsamic vinegar are delightful. With plain balsamic and oil, they are incredible, and with vanilla fig balsamic they are probably illegal, or ought to be.
Laundry and ice cream were next on the agenda: I made two flavors of ice cream today. Then, a quick trip to the garden to round up the latest peppers and cucumbers.
Not a lot, but more than expected after the cow episode.
There were also a few inevitable zucchini.
Peppers were prepped for the smoker by Mr. Caffeinated:
I picked the cucumbers:
A batch of pickle brine was needed for this, plus I ran out of homemade veggie wash and needed to make a batch of that:
Veggie Wash: 1 part white vinegar, 2 parts water, 10-20 drops grapefruit seed extract, 1/2-1 t. dish soap.
Pickle brine: 1 quart apple cider vinegar - I use Azure Standard's organic ACV - 3 quarts water, 1 cup canning salt.
I also caught up with the ripe pears and got them into the dehydrator.
There are more pears ripening downstairs.
We ate leftovers for dinner, and dashed off to Walmart.
Upon our return, I picked tomatoes while Mr. Caffeinated fixed fencing.
Then I went to check on the Patch of Viney Things.
I found cantaloupes.
Oh, so many ripe cantaloupes. Thirteen, after it was all said and done.
A bunch of these are going to church, because there's no way we'll eat them all. The overripe ones went to the cows and the chickens. The cows were lined up at the fence, drooling.
We also found a pumpkin…
… they liked that, too.
Back inside, the peppers were moved from the smoker to the dehydrator.
I made ice cream bars, and Mr. Caffeinated made an angel food cake.
Then, I left the kitchen mess to the boys and practiced piano; I play at Sunnyside CRC tomorrow morning with their worship team!
Two loads of laundry to fold, then off to bed; it's past midnight!
But hey - Stuff Got Done!
