We have had Daisy for almost a month. Goldendoodles require a bit more grooming effort than a Golden Retriever does. Today, I cut her nails, brushed her teeth, and brushed her coat. I have been handling her paws since we brought her home. Dogs can be weird with their paws starting at about 4 months. I won't have a dog that I can't handle in our house. Biting is unacceptable. Puppies bite, I offer toys with no bite hand command. Daisy is a very secure puppy who wants to please you. She is a very different dog than Stella because she didn't come from a puppy mill.
Puppies like children require structure. Daisy gets 2 walks, 3 meals, and a few treats. She can walk nicely on a leash. She can sit. She stays. She drops it. Our vet was surprised that she is so well-mannered. My husband confessed that I am the one who puts in the work. I am not her best friend. The vet was amused. He had heard me redirect a very large dog as we were walking into the office. I was carrying Daisy and this aggressive dog almost knocked me off my feet. I sternly said, "NO, Dog, Sit " He whined and sat. He laughed and told me I didn't look like the type to be a dog whisperer.
Daisy is not fond of her new brush. She has learned to sit still and not bite the brush with praise and treats.
My husband continues to row the boat in the opposite direction. He gave her steak pieces last night. I reminded him that puppies turn into begging dogs and dogs who jump on counters to steal food. Our Goldendoodle is going to be big. With the travel we do, the grandchildren, and her safety and well-being, Daisy needs to be well-behaved.
