I've frequently been told that I should not share my reviews on comedies. The reason being? Still after growing up Adam Sandler and Tyler Perry movies have a large place in my heart. I can't help recognizing the place we all have for stupid comedy. How we all need to preserve some light-hearted non-thinking fun within us. So here's my review of the 2022 film Shotgun Wedding.
First and foremost we have to accept that a comedy movie with Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Lopez is going to have major cheesy romance moments. Jlo is a queen at romantic comedies. However, there is a part of me that wants to say the movie leans more towards a comedy than what we think of with romantic comedies. Sure, their relationship is in the front and an ex boyfriend is the evil mastermind of ruining the wedding, but the way it plays off you sort of forget about the romance part of the comedy till the last acts. When the character themselves seem to remember about their relationship as more than drop comments. Not that you would care when you see Jlo slow running down a beach or dropping grenades on evil pirates. All appropriately managed from being too pandering by Josh Duhamel's comedic interruptions. His flying jacket or scream demanding fear of heights reminding us that he is a veteran of the genre and he can put his body into it. It's not the best comedy of the year but I'd be surprised if it was made to be that. Shotgun Wedding is just a solid good time of a movie built on veteran actors showing off their talents. It's a great laugh and feel good experience. Both actors are great at creating that very warm feeling in your belly when you are comfortable and happy. Plus, some people may get butterflies just seeing Lenny Kravitz in the movie. Ignore the 5/10 IMDB rating if you are a fan of the genre or Jlo. I'd give it a somewhat more realistic score of 7-8.
