We had a celebration dinner one evening this week, and someone commented that the steak was perfect, much better than the steaks she had had in restaurants. I had to agree. The tenderloin was of good quality. It was served with homemade mashed potato, asparagus, and kale and cherry tomato salad.
We take dining at home for granted, but when friends come over for dinner, they always tell us that they love the food.
We love to have friends over and we love to celebrate birthdays and special occasions, including National Day.
We celebrated a birthday last night with a Mexican dinner and a movie. It meant quite a bit of preparation and shopping. Aye (pronounced Ah-shea) is an expert at planning celebration meals, complete with décor. She does it seemingly without effort. A celebration meal requires team effort, so there were many hands in the kitchen. Carmen and Jo were recruited to cook. I must say, they did a good job. Dinner was ready on time, complete with a birthday tart by Aye. The popcorn took a bit longer to make. The caramel coated popcorn was the highlight of the night.
It doesn't take much to make us happy. I haven't been to a Mexican restaurant in a while, but our homemade Mexican dinner looked quite authentic. The truth is that part of the fun of a celebration dinner is the preparation. What one gets out of the dinner is what one puts into the dinner. Well, that's a simple way of putting it.
