How could the weekend have gone by so quickly? Our home was filled with family that came to the area to watch and support Jake, my youngest grandson, participate in shooting competition at the Copperhead Creek Shooting Club location in Marble Falls.
First, it was a nice day to be outside. Secondly, the fact that Jake had ten adults present to support him made the gathering one filled with conversation and good times. In addition, I ate more than my share of "death by chocolate cookies." I am willing to do it all over again.
Jake has participated in the Austin County 4-H Shooting program since he was eight. He will be fifteen in December. I always smile when he refers to having done his personal best. Every time he pulls the trigger, the record he hopes to beat is his own. Jake is in competition with Jake.
Several months ago, he qualified as one of 12 youth across in the nation in his age-range to participate in the Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs, CO. It was a favorably memorable experience for him. He is very hopeful to qualify again next year.
We figuratively made a day of it and still got home in time to have daylight left. In contrast to yesterday, Saturday was an ideal day to be outside. Of course, Jake and his dad and a fewer number of supporters were back at the Copperhead Creek Shooting Club site on Sunday.
It was my plan to grill fajitas on Saturday evening. As it turned out, earlier in the evening, my accidently closing the iron front door on my fingertips put me momentarily out of commission. Immediately, "Ouch - Ouch - Ouch" came out of my mouth. I articulated the ouch-phrase more than once.
Intuitively, I lifted my left arm above my head to get my fingertips above my heart. Did it help? I don't know.
It was not a feel-good experience! For that matter, the pain hasn't totally worn off, and I have inadvertently bumped that hand against any number of things. "Ouch - Ouch - Ouch" has been my most often said expression in the past 48 hours.
I still give the weekend high marks. The time shared together was enjoyable.
