Chaplain's Chat
I had my arms full and couldn't be bothered to put the load down and switch the light on to descend the stairs. It was pitch black, but I knew how many steps were in this section of the staircase, for I had walked them many, many times before. I counted nine steps and thought that was it. Unfortunately I wasn't on the flight of stairs I thought I was, and there was one more step to go. Needless to say, I fell, and my load went everywhere. If I'd just taken the time to switch the light on! I thank God that only my pride was damaged.
Jesus said "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life." John 8:12
I chose not to have the light, trusting my own judgement, ending in failure. Life can be like that sometimes when we think we know what's best. His invitation is to accept the life we can have in Him, the way that leads to real life, in all its fullness. A life lived apart from Christ lacks fulfilment. The World offers joy that is temporary and offers so many things that appear good and wholesome but delivers very little. It promises satisfaction and freedom, but in fact, brokenness, loneliness, dissatisfaction, sadness, sorrow, and darkness follow its promises.
Jesus came and declared He is the light of the world, showing us how we should live, not as unwise but as wise. He taught us a way of life that brings fulfilment and a richness that is not of this world. He is the light, and all who walk in the light will receive eternal rewards.
Where there is light, we can see clearly the direction we should go, or the steps we should take. When we are not sure, "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." Psalm 119:105. He lights the darkest way. His word is clear, and God does not leave us wondering, and His Spirit is there to strengthen and guide us, and give us understanding.
Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing Your light into a dark world that desperately needs it, for Your Holy Spirit Who will be with us through this journey called life. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
Chaplain Ron
