Many of us can remember the three monkeys. They represented speaking no evil, hearing no evil and seeing no evil. I was told that there was a fourth monkey that represented doing no evil. This is a good lesson to remember. But what if we add a little twist to it?
Say maybe apply it to our walk with God. Wonder how that would go? Three little Christians sitting in a row.
Faith comes from "hearing"; hearing the word of God being preached and taught. (Romans 10:17){Thus faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.}
We are strengthened by "seeing" the scripture as we read and study the holy word. (Acts 3:16) {By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has.} or (Isaiah 41:10) {So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.}
And we "Speak" out what we now know when we proclaim all that God has done in our lives. We sing His praises, giving thanksgiving in our prayers as we worship our King. (Acts 20:24) {However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me}
Oh I didn't forget about that fourth monkey. The one who is doing no evil.
Christians are called not just to "do no evil", but to do good. And how does one do this? (Matthew 28:19-20)
{Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.}
We "do" what our Lord has called us to do; by living our lives in a manner that reflects God's glory and proclaims God's story.
We are called to live lives that will lead others to Christ. That is our fourth monkey.
