Opportunity Sheffield's sector-specific training and employee progression offers will relaunch in April 2024, as the third year of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) regime gets underway.
Activity previously funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), up until December 2023, will shortly recommence as part of Skills & Employability South Yorkshire Programme, which is being delivered by Sheffield City Council in partnership with the other South Yorkshire Local Authorities.
This will include:
- short, sharp, industry specific training courses with a work placement element, available to economically inactive and socially excluded unemployed residents
- funded training and career progression support, available to residents who are already in employment or self-employment
Employment support activity delivered by Sheffield's voluntary and community sector is already operational, with the ESF to UKSPF switchover occurring in respect of VCS-delivered activity in December 2023.
Opportunity Sheffield has additional flexibility with its UKSPF budget from the start of the new financial year, which means it will be able to deliver provision previously available through ESF Sector Routeways and ESF Advance.
About Opportunity Sheffield's sector-specific training
Each month, we run short, industry-specific training courses. These are designed to help out-of-work people secure employment in industries where there are high numbers of vacancies.
Our sector routeways lead to sustainable jobs in areas such as:
- construction
- manufacturing
- engineering
- early years education
- adult social care
- business administration
- hospitality
- digital
Our bootcamp-style training courses include initial classroom study. This is where you'll gain the qualifications needed to get on-site and active in the workplace.
You then can undertake a one or two-week work placement with a local employer in your sector of choice. This will lead to a job or apprenticeship. Get in touch with sectorrouteways@sheffeld.gov.uk.
