#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! This week is a little lighter than the past few but still plenty of titles to choose from. DC still has Batman Off World and at last the man behind the curtain is revealed in Wonder Woman. Marvel gives us a little deeper look into The Spectacular Spider-Men and Ghost Rider Final Vengeance, while Image has Something Epic to show you. Sponsored by All C's Collectibles who is gearing up for Free Comic Book Day with a few surprises of their own, but for now we've got five stacked high ready to fly!
Cobra Commander #4> THE ENERGON UNIVERSE IS IN DANGER.
Cobra Commander has found a new ally—willing or not—that may just make him unstoppable.
Unless, of course, someone is one step ahead of him… (S) Joshua Williamson (A) Andrea Milana, Annalisa Leoni
Smurfs Take> I expected this title to be the dog of the new releases for the Energon Universe; Cobra Commander was a used car salesman and anything past that was unacceptable. I couldn't have been more wrong as this story has far exceeded my expectations so much that I like the Cobra La connection and how it pulls everything together. Now it's just a fun ride as we start to get more characters we know and love with some very well thought out connections.
Avengers: Twilight #5> America and democracy are under attack! Can THE AVENGERS of tomorrow save a country from itself, as their greatest enemy dismantles everything CAPTAIN AMERICA holds dear? It's a battle decades in the making, and no one is safe! (S) Chip Zdarsky (A) Daniel Acuna
Smurfs Take> This has been amazing! A look into the not so far future while explaining what happened and where it all went so terribly wrong. A compelling character driven story worthy of the Avengers.
Sam and Twitch: Case File #2> The hunt for a murderer brings to light an old case our two distinguished detectives thought long closed. Could there be a missing connection? (S) Todd McFarland (A) Szymon Kudranski
Smurfs Take> I think these two characters are the best thing to come out of Spawn and I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the Toddfather was the writer on this title. But after the first issue I can tell you I really missed these two and was a perfect return for this cop duo. Excited to see where it goes as always but off to a good start and happy to see the return of this title.
Mace Windu #3> ONE OF THE GREATEST JEDI MUST STOP AN EXPLOSIVE SECRET FROM FALLING INTO THE WRONG HANDS! On the refinery moon RO MIRA, MACE WINDU and smuggler AZITA CRUUZ - carrying the formula to a paradigm-smashing energy source - are on the run from Ro Mira's security forces and a HUTT-hired BOUNTY HUNTER. Can MACE dispatch a squadron of fighters led by the ruthless Anzellan YAYA SHRAM with nothing by his LIGHTSABER and THE FORCE? Introducing MURO and DIYA, DUSK WEAVERS OF THE HAD'LE PATH, a cult obsessed with wiping technology from the face of the galaxy! (S) Marc Bernadin (S) Georges Jeanty
Smurfs Take> Decent in terms of a Mace Windu story, I think he's just a difficult character to write for without asking yourself "WWSLJD". I want more of this character no question about it and this story does a good job of giving us a little more depth to the character, but it still keeps him rather stiff. A fun read for the Star Wars and Mace fans alike with some potential this issue gives us something a little different.
What If Venom #3> THE SYMBIOTE SUPREME! NONE ARE SAFE from the Venom symbiote's permeation of every corner of yesteryear and the present alike with its inky, black tendrils…not even DOCTOR STRANGE, THE SORCERER SUPREME! BY THE CRYING CREATURES OF KLYNTAR, THIS IS ONE YOU CAN'T MISS! (S) Jeremy Holt (A) Manuel Garcia
Smurfs Take> I dig this series and feels like a bigger extension on the old Black Costume What If #4. It's a fun way to explore some of the comic shop chatter without a major impact to any of the current stories. It's why I love this series and who doesn't love a good Venom story?
