The school days are getting shorter. Our kids are always ahead. We have another round of state testing. This brings about a story from our California trip. I was walking with my sister in-law and her friend. I will call the friend Mary. Mary and I were discussing true crime and punishment. Mary made a crude comment and my teenager was there. I could have waited to correct the comment with my daughter privately, however I chose to refer to the book we were reading on solitary confinement, I was called something, I had never been called before, A Liberal, in all places, California. Liberal is not a term I would identify with it. I have conservative values, however, rights and law should go hand in hand. Mary is a former teacher and it drives her crazy that we homeschool. She often will ask our kids obscure questions and she hasn't been able to trip them up. So, she likes ot make little digs at me.
The morning was spent discussing nonviolent movement across the world. The children have a large research paper. I used this time to make 10 batches of ravoli for my freezer. The family loves it and it takes time to make. I made pumpkin ravoli and cheese. Quick meal in the freezer as gardening season begins.
We have another 8 goats, this brings us to 14 goats. We have 45 chickens. We have two pigs. I also have a cow that doesn't live here.
Mid-morning, the kids and I went to the foodbank to volunteer. We have decided to volunteer for 3 hours a month at the foodbank and twice a week at the animal shelter. Service is wonderful when you don't get involved in the politics and dynamics of it all.
We started getting the pool ready this afternoon.
Dinner was chicken meatball curry over rice. I didn't care for this recipe, it was a new recipe.
I spent some time working on my novel. I really hate editing. Our daughter told me she hates the ending. I changed the ending. My family has listened to many reading of chapters and endings.
