#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! Mid-May already and it's been overflowing with some great titles so far. This week is no exception as Action Comics continues the battle with Brainiac and some help from the Main Man. Marvel has made it Spider-Man week with stories from heroes and villains alike. While Image continues strong with Something Epic and the new Monolith limited series; with all of this and more available at our sponsors two different locations All C's Collectibles. So here we go, we've got five stacked high ready to fly!
Doom #1> IN THE NEAR FUTURE…DOOM ALONE MUST SAVE THE MARVEL UNIVERSE! Legendary creators Jonathan Hickman (ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, G.O.D.S.) and Sanford Greene (Bitter Root) send Doctor Doom on a journey unlike any he has undertaken before! With Valeria Richards at his side, Doom goes on a quest to harness more power than any human has ever wielded before in order to try to stop Galactus from bringing about the death of the universe! (S) Sanford Greene, Jonathan Hickman (A) Sanford Greene
Smurfs Take> I love me a good Doom story, and even more when it's his own title. Marvel has tried this approach multiple times over the years, to some success but I have a little higher expectation now. First, the creative team is in the zone right now with their other projects and anxious to see what they do with Doom. Secondly, Marvel has perfected the "Villain" title approach and have refined it compared to Doom's last outing to the shelves. And while we can't get a decent FF book perhaps, we fix that with a great Doom book.
Alien: Black, White, & Blood #4> THE SLICKEST, SICKEST, MOST SADISTIC ISSUE YET! Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing and Michael Dowling's "Utopia" reaches its final generation, the worst of human nature on full display. Then in Bryan Hill's "Break Out," a man will do anything to provide a safe home for his daughter. And Weyland-Yutani is here to help… Then Eisner and Harvey-award winner Pornsak Pichetshote brings his horror chops to the Alien universe! With more to be revealed, Alien: Black, White & Blood is a must-have for any Alien fan! (S) Bryan Edward Hill, Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Pronsak Pichetshote (A) Chris Cross, Michael Dowling, Parhta Pratim
Smurfs Take> Carnage! Carnage on a whole new level and it's absolutely amazing! Doing better than the past few issues is a tall order in my mind, not impossible, but the bar is set rather high. Marvel has been able to capture the heart of Dark Horse Comics Presents and turned it up by a factor of 10 with these great shorts and interludes. How Alien was meant to be!
Redcoat #2> THE UNNAMED'S REDCOAT IS JUST GETTING STARTED! It is 1892! The year of Coca-Cola, the first public basketball game, and Lizzie Borden picking up an axe! It's also the year that immortal mercenary and former British Revolutionary War soldier Simon Pure finds himself the target of a mysterious cult. One that seems to know everything about him. And now Simon must do something he's never done before—accept help. Help in the form of the most unlikely of allies: a 12-year-old Albert Einstein obsessed with unlocking the secrets to Simon's magic! (S) Geoff Johns (A) Brad Anderson
Smurfs Take> Ok, I liked issue one and found it just entertaining. I mean, it's outrageous, over the top, and borderline ridiculous but that's what's fun about it. Issue one was a great intro and sets the stage for what could be the most unlikely of What If's I've ever seen.
Green Lantern #11> VEGAS, BABY, VEGAS – Part One
How do you move on from the person you've loved your entire life? How do you start over? Carol wrestles with her feelings as she makes a choice that will change her and Hal's lives forever. Meanwhile, Hal faces off against the United Planets, hoping to bring to light its corrupt members and reestablish the Green Lantern Corps once and for all! Plus, Guy Gardner has caught his man…or has he? Things go from bad to worse to exponentially strange as Guy attempts to get his prisoner and himself back to Oa in one piece! (S) Jeremy Adams (A) Xermanico, Kevin Maguire
Smurfs Take> Just a good story. I like all of the different elements going on with this title as we dive deeper into the mystery and exactly happened to all of the various lanterns. Great Earth Man in Space approach with a very familiar character.
X-O Manowar Invictus #1> X-O MANOWAR returns in the thrilling odyssey of "X-O MANOWAR: INVICTUS" by Becky Cloonan and Micheal W Conrad, joined by Fernando Heinz Furukawa.
X-O MANOWAR's unyielding quest for justice drives him to the heart of Nova Romanus to rescue the enigmatic Soothsayer, unveiling an odyssey that tests power, loyalty, and the essence of heroism. Amidst the chaos, Shanhara, the sentient armor, falls silent, shrouding the bond between warrior and armor in mystery. As X-O MANOWAR battles on multiple fronts, the arrival of the cosmic wanderer Ivar adds a layer of complexity to the intricate tapestry of fate. (S) Becky Cloonan, Michael Conrad (A) Fernando Heinz, Fernando Heinz Furukawa (CA) German Peralta
Smurfs Take> Perhaps I'm feeling nostalgic after reading the Valiant Free Comic Book Day issue, but I'm really interested in this story and want to see what Valliant's got to offer. I've made it no mystery X-O is my favorite out of the bunch offered by the publisher, I love the idea behind it and really want to see a hit for them and the character. Definitely not your typical cape's story here and I'm alright with that.
