Women judge each other in so many ways. The care of the home is related to the warmth of the hearth and creates the heart of the abode. We were watching The Chosen Season 4 tonight. The parable is about acts of heart and faith and acts of service. There is a balance between being present and blind service. Martha, today would be a type A personality. Martha was the first in her family to turn to Jesus as the savior. Luke's gospel portrays Martha very negatively.
My family of origin created my role of Martha. Later, I would be a Mary, The core difference between Mary and Martha is worry and joy. Today, I am a combination of Mary and Martha to service my family and be present. We create work and stress for ourselves by trying to keep everything Perfect, we miss the joys.
My oldest child has fond memories of the holidays. I used to create special menus, decor for the holiday, dresses and matching accessories, and gifts for every holiday. I look back at the stress and expense and she sees the magic I created.
As women, I think sometimes, we cut people down because they have the skills and/or the mindset we wish we had or had time for.
I find praying in the morning makes me more productive. My prayers are deeper when I am in Martha mode. I entered the rental on Thursday as a Martha. I was about pleasing my husband by cleaning the mess cleaned up quickly. I tore through the house tossing everything outside the house in a fury. I emptied the first floor in about an hour. As I began to calm down, I began to reflect on what causes people to live this way destroying other people's property. Our broken immigrant system, systemic poverty, and immorality.
