I fielded calls throughout the day for the rental property. I typically spend about 20 hours preparing for a new tenant. The interviews, background checks, lease prep, and cleanup from the last tenant.
My workout was later in the day. I wrote for a few hours this morning. I am working on short stories. The weather was ghastly hot and windy today. I ended up needing to dust the entire house again. I love open windows.
The weeds are growing faster than the crops. I spend 2 hours weeding the garden beds. The goats were milked. I have two pregnant goats. Our piglets are growing. I made cottage cheese today. We were at CityMarket today and milk was under 25 cents a gallon, 15 cents a matter of fact. I used it to make cottage cheese and yogurt. While I was standing in line, I noticed a mother of tired and fussy 5 children and they simply didn't want to be in line. I was listening to customers making comments. One of the children decided that perhaps I would like to read to him, I swear children know I spent years working with children. So, I asked his mother if she wanted me to read to him. I read to him. I smiled at her after she was checked out and told, "You are doing a good job, motherhood is often the most criticized and underpaid, yet most rewarding role you will ever have." I think women need to be kind to each other.
I made strawberry jam today. We went through more jams this year than the previous year. I never run out before canning season. We used jams in different ways this year.
We have been living a cat-free life since we have been on the Western Slope. My preference for pets has always been cats. My neighbor found a Persian gray kitten. Now, I have always owned gray Persian kittens. Our neighbor brought me this kitten this morning. The mother came to my house yowling up a storm. I took her and her mother to the vet and they were given a clean bill of health. He gave them a rabies shot. She acts like a typical Persian with double paws. This is the mother sitting peacefully on my porch swing. They are very talkative. My husband installed a kitty door for them. Oh, I have missed a cat kneading on my lap.
