Law enforcement is a profession that I most admire. In my mental health career, I worked with members of law enforcement. Law enforcement protected me after I left my abusive partner. There has been so much talk about defunding the police. We need to put effort into hiring qualified, empathetic men and women who believe in serving and protecting. Any profession will attract bad apples. We see this in teaching, fire departments, social services, etc. We need to care for our officers and their families. The work brings trauma that officers carry home. There are few jobs where people go to work knowing they could be assaulted, injured, killed, or have to kill someone. Sit with that........ I know that stress from working with violent teenagers. Law enforcement needs to take better care of the officers.
