Last week I posted about my new-to-me, 2020 Mustang. I bought it after my Miata blew its head gasket.
You might remember, the Mustang had a check engine light and an error code which pointed to the purge valve. I wanted to just fix it myself, but, instead, I took it to the place where I bought it (rhymes with ShmarMax) for a warranty repair.
Here's what happened:
ShmarMax diagnosed the problem as, indeed, the purge valve. But, they informed me, the Mustang was still covered by the factory warranty for the power train and for emissions. So, I'd have to take it to Ford.
Fine. There was an open recall on my car anyhow. I scheduled an appointment for this past Friday.
I took the car in and, lo and behold, the purge valve is not covered by the warranty. There's more to the story, but, basically, ultimately, I just paid for a new purge valve and installed it myself. The service tech at ShmarMax said they'd cover the diagnostic fee if Ford insisted on charging me, so I'll call him tomorrow and see. And, at least the recall repair is done. I hopefully won't have to go back to that Ford dealer any day soon.
In any case, the check engine light is gone. I also replaced the spark plugs while I was at it and the low pressure fuel sensor, too. The car is running nicely. The rough shifting, it turns out, wasn't due to the purge valve. It's an artifact of the adaptive learning system of the transmission. I won't go into it all in this post, but, I bought a scan tool and reset the transmission control module and that took care of that.
So.
It's all taken some of the shine off my new toy. I just wanted to enjoy driving it without stressing about it.
But, oh well.
I'm still enjoying it, regardless.
