Happy Friday to you! It's been a full week here in my household. We've worked on painting in the house, eating at home, and other frugal activities. But mostly, my mind has been on Christmas this week.
It's September now, and that means that the holiday season feels like it's just around the corner! If you're planning to make anything special for a gift, this is the time to get in gear and get it done! You don't want to be Christmas even sewing, I promise!
There's a gift guide on my blog from years ago. Many of the ideas are still pretty good. Anything small that can be made in a day or two of sewing is a good gift, in my opinion! Small quilts, needlebooks, tea cozies, etc make very good gifts. I think I'll be making a project bag for one of the gifts we give this year, too! Pouches of all sorts make good gifts, and they can be filled with goodies!
I have a sweet recipient in my life who doesn't read my blog. She's receiving a mending kit, which will include pretty, small scissors, a handmade needlebook in her favorite colors, and a container of many needle sizes. She's trying to be more prepared for things that come up, and a mending kit is a good thing to have on hand when needed!
When we consider frugal gifts, there are things to be found at the thrift store now ahead of time, that will be make great gifts. Frames with family pictures, glassware, and silver can all make lovely gifts! Vanilla can be made ahead of time and makes a great gift with a basket of baking items. I really encourage you to go searching though the web, like Pinterest, for handmade gift items! You'll find quite a few ideas, and many that don't require much beyond your own fabric stash!
I hope this gets your mind whirring about what you can make or find to have a frugal Christmas. It seems like this year requires some extra creativity in general! Happy Sewing and Thrifting!
