Matthew Belloni, a former Hollywood Reporter editor who writes about entertainment for Puck, says in a new episode of the podcast The Town that he erred in predicting the future of the 007 franchise.
On the podcast, Belloni said he once thought Amazon, which acquired MGM in 2021, would manage to get Eon Productions to make James Bond productions more frequently.
Today, the veteran entertainment journalist has changed his tune.
"I just don't think the Broccolis are ever going to waver from this one movie every five years thing," Belloni said. "I thought under the Amazon relationship with MGM that it might change and they might be able to convince them to do a TV show or spinoffs...It just does not appear to be the case. Amazon seems to have resolved to that fate."
"We'll see if they do a movie soon."
The only Bond spinoff since Amazon took over MGM is the reality show 007: Road to a Million, which was shown on Amazon Prime last year.
That series isn't much different from other reality shows except for adding some James Bond tropes, such as music tracks from 007 movies made by Eon and (some) locations from the films. Contestants sought a prize of £1 million and were put through their paces just to find the questions they had to answer to advance.
