Scripture Verse of the Week
John 19 Verse 30: "When Jesus had received the sour wine'. He said, 'It is finished!' Then bowing His head, He gave up His Spirit".
When an artist completes a picture, or a writer a manuscript, he or she might say it is finished.
The death of Jesus on the Cross, 'completes the picture' that God had been painting. The story that He had been writing, for centuries.
Because of the cross, we better understand the ceremonies and prophecies in the Old Testament. In the Gospel of John, we find a number of pictures of our Lord's death:
The slaying of The Lamb.
The destroying of The Temple.
The lifting up of the serpent.
The Shepard laying down his life for the sheep.
The Planting the seed in the ground.
These pictures make it clear that Jesus' death was not an accident, it was a divine appointment.
Christ Jesus gave up His life freely, He actually accomplished the redemptive work of the Cross.
Our Lord and Our Friend loved us that much, He laid down His life of us. That we might have a relationship with Him, in a way we were all created for.
God Bless.
